Garry E. Thurman Partner
Garry Thurman is a partner at Guardian Investment & Accounting Services and a licensed insurance professional. He has 20 years of experience in the insurance and annuity industry and holds life, casualty, health and property insurance licenses in Tennessee.
Previously, Garry spent several years advancing to the position of national sales director with a well-respected corporation. While working closely with individuals in this position, Garry realized there was a need for more secure retirement options for their families and their future. In 2009, he founded Guardian Asset Protectors to help individuals and companies with their financial needs using insurance products with top-rated carriers.
In 2016, Garry joined forces with Ron Koplan, founder of Koplan & Associates, to form Guardian Investment & Accounting Services LLC. The new company brings together the knowledge and experience from different areas of tax, investing and accounting services to equip clients with more powerful financial tools.
Committed to his faith and family, Garry is very involved in the lives of his wife, Rhonda; his son, Nick; and Rhonda’s son, Greyson. Outside of work, Garry serves on the board of directors for the American Cancer Society and is committed to the goals of fundraising for several other charities in the community and in other countries.
Ron Koplan,CPA, PFS, CGMA and RIA®Partner
Ron Koplan is a partner at Guardian Investment & Accounting Services. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA®) with more than three decades of tax, accounting and investment experience.
In 1982, Ron founded Koplan & Associates, a Certified Public Accounting firm providing tax, accounting, business consulting and investment guidance. In 2016, Ron joined forces with Garry Thurman, founder of Guardian Asset Protectors, to form Guardian Investment & Accounting Services LLC. The new company brings together the knowledge and experience from different areas of tax, investing and accounting services to equip clients with more powerful financial tools.
Ron has passed the Series 65 securities exam and holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting, finance and math from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He truly enjoys advising individuals and businesses on tax-efficient strategies, as well as advising them on their financial, investment and business questions.
Tyde McIntoshInsurance and Retirement Advisor
Tyde is focused on providing clients with financial plans that help them feel prepared for the future.
With more than fifteen years of experience in the client services industry, Tyde understands the importance of building a trust-based relationship with clients. That’s why — since joining Guardian Investment and Accounting in 2015 — he has worked tirelessly with each client to understand their dreams, goals and concerns regarding retirement. There’s nothing Tyde enjoys more than helping clients build confidence in their finances by crafting a clear path to their retirement goals.
Tyde has insurance licenses in the state of Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina and has earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama.
In his free time, Tyde enjoys riding his Harley Davidson and playing golf.
As a well-rounded financial professional, Karen works hard each day to meet and exceed the needs of both her clients and coworkers.
After a career in logistics, Karen transitioned into the financial field and began working for Guardian Investment & Accounting Services in 2018 as an associate accountant. Since then, she has applied her knowledge of numbers and love of helping others to help both her clients and her firm succeed.
Karen earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Purdue University Global.
Karen and her husband, Brandon, have two daughters. When she’s not at work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, being involved with her church and traveling.
Melody E. Cox
Tax Associate/Office Coordinator
Melody Cox is a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area with more than 20 years’ experience providing administrative support and customer service. Her meticulous approach to tax returns gives clients confidence that she has both satisfied the IRS guidelines and calculated the very best return results for them.
In addition to working on tax returns, she manages the tax return process from start to finish for the office, researches IRS notices, manages spreadsheets and office forms, orders office supplies, answers phones, organizes and emails tax year packet emails, speaks with potential new tax clients and solves problems.
Before joining Guardian Investment and Accounting in 2017, Melody gained a wide array of skills dealing with all types of people and situations by working in the local tourism, auto repair and accounting industries.
When she isn’t working, Melody loves spending time with her daughter, Olivia, and family and friends. She enjoys traveling, shopping and scrapbooking.
Event Coordinator/Client Relations Associate
Rhonda Thurman firmly believes in Guardian Investment and Accounting’s mission to assist clients with trusted care and to provide exceptional value as they work toward successful financial futures. She has helped her husband, Garry Thurman, from the beginning when he decided to become an independent financial advisor, and she continues to assist the firm and its clients to the best of her ability.
Outside of the firm, Rhonda has been a business owner and independent contractor for more than 20 years. She enjoys empowering clients and is passionate about helping other self-employed people, especially women, find their path toward retirement.
Rhonda earned a bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Away from the office, Rhonda’s hobbies include decorating and traveling, and she loves spending time with friends and family as much as possible. She is the proud mother to Greyson Harris and stepmother to Nick Thurman.
Customer Relations Associate
Kimberly McCullough excels in the financial industry with her focus on relationship-building and networking. After being a stay at home mom for 13 years, Kimberly welcomed a change of pace and joined Guardian Investment and Accounting in 2016.
Initially hired as a receptionist, Kimberly quickly worked her way up to assist in other areas of the business and now helps Garry Thurman with customer relations, case management, marketing and operational support on the investment side of the business.
Kimberly earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. At home, she stays busy with family, exercise and home decorating. Kimberly lives in Signal Mountain, Tennessee, with her two daughters and husband, Zac, who serves as captain for the Chattanooga Police Department.
Anne Koplan, CPA
Anne Koplan came to Guardian Investment and Accounting in 2010, where she continues to provide tax planning services for clients. Her other duties include handling preparation of corporate returns and personal returns, providing technical assistance with software and databases and corresponding with the IRS.
Anne thrives on being a student. She completed her bachelor’s degree in computer science with a minor in math from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She then went on to earn her MBA in finance from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Anne later went back to school to complete her accounting degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she graduated with honors as a member of the Beta Alpha Psi professional fraternity for accounting students.
Anne holds her Certified Public Accountant license in the state of Tennessee. Additionally, she is a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants and also the Chattanooga Tax Practitioners.
When not working, Anne enjoys staying home cooking, tending to her garden and spending time with her pet dogs and birds. Of course, she also loves the perks of being a grandmother and watching her grandchildren grow.
Digital Marketing Associate
Nick Thurman grew up watching his father operate Guardian Investment and Accounting and knew he wanted to help the family business when the time came. He brings his passion for digital marketing to the table by helping the firm with all video, audio, social media and podcast needs.
Nick proudly believes in the firm’s goal to make the financial planning process smooth and enjoyable for all clients and does his part in going above and beyond to show clients he cares.
Born and raised in Chattanooga, Nick graduated from Heritage High School in 2015. He spends his time away from the office focusing on other aspects of his passion for music, photography and videography.
Barb Wise joined the team at Guardian Investment and Accounting in 2014. She brings a wealth of accounting, marketing, management and event planning experience to the firm through work in a number of industries, including journalism, local government and real estate.
Barb holds her real estate license in Texas and studied accounting at Dalton College.
Barb is active in her community promoting civic engagement. Currently, she is a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church, where she assists in Sunday School classes. She also is involved with the Weatherford Rotary Club, previously serving as its president and being named Rotarian of the Year in 1999, and she sits on the board of the Chattanooga Ski Club.
Joanna L. Nash
Joanna always strives to deliver consistent value to her clients as their financial needs evolve.
Joanna began her career coordinating volunteer efforts for the American Red Cross and preparing taxes at Koplan & Associates. She went on to work in publishing and marketing for the medical industry before moving into insurance. Joanna now uses her knowledge of the tax and insurance industries to help clients build comprehensive income and retirement strategies.
Joanna earned her degree at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and has insurance licenses in the states of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Delaware.
Joanna spends her free time adventuring with her two sons and adopted dogs.
